Here’s our story.  

We began with Alder Home Security, building and designing better home security systems that resonated with families. However, monitored home security systems didn’t offer the same monitoring solutions for smoke detectors. 

We decided to create a product that specifically focused on preventing fire-related injuries in the home by alerting residents faster, giving them more time to safely evacuate the building. 

Luna’s headquarters are located in San Diego, California, and is led by a team dedicated to finding a better solution for fire security. 

Many current smoke detectors use outdated technology created in the ’70s. However, in the 1970s, the National Institute of Standards and Technology found that people have 17 minutes to escape a burning house before being overwhelmed by heat and smoke. Today, the estimate is closer to three minutes (due to an increase in synthetic home materials). 

Detectors that use outdated technology assume that people still have 17 minutes to escape. They are slow and sluggish when it comes to detecting smoke. 

There has to be a better option…

Luna began as an idea — a way to make homes safer from fire, smoke, and carbon monoxide. Luna needed to cut down response times by sensing smoke the second a fire starts and notifying the fire department within moments of the initial alarm.

We’re proud to say that we turned our idea into a success story. Now, Luna is a responsive, accurate, user-friendly smoke and carbon monoxide detector created specifically with our own families in mind. Luna senses smoke and heat faster than any other detectors on the market and calls the fire department for you so you can focus on evacuating the home. 

Too often, smoke detectors wait for the room to fill with smoke before triggering the alarm. By then, the rooms are clouded with thick smoke, and the fire is already out of control. 

Outdated fire alarms pose a risk to families rather than a comfort. Homeowners and renters should be able to rely on their smoke detectors — smoke detectors that don’t register smoke fast enough fail those they’re meant to protect. 

Some smoke alarm companies use cheap materials to save money while still passing code. Luna isn’t setting the bar at “passing code.” Our goal is to keep your family safe.
