Family of 7 loses 4

Family of 7 loses 4

On February 6, 2007, an electrical fire started in a Blount County home. Amanda and Ross Deputy had 5 children, 4 of which were sleeping upstairs. Like most people, the Deputy’s regularly tested their smoke detectors, and replaced batteries. But when it was time for these detectors to do their job… they never even sounded.

In the early morning, the fire started without warning and in minutes the home was engulfed in flames. Sadly, all 4 children who slept upstairs were killed in the fire.

Nothing could be more devastating.

“There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss them. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about them. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think, ‘What would they be like? What would they look like?” Amanda said, “This year Shelbea would have been 16. She would have been driving.”

The Debutys have spent years warning parents to use the correct measures to protect families from fire.

So, what can you do to better protect your family?

First, close bedroom doors at night. If a fire starts outside the bedroom, having the door shut will block smoke from filling the room and give you more time to escape.

Next, use a photoelectric smoke detector. Ionization detectors are slow to detect smoke. Often times it’s too late by the time the detector sounds.

Photoelectric detectors detect smoke much faster, allowing you warning and helping your family get to safety.

And if you want to give your family the best safety available… Monitored, photoelectric smoke detectors can give you and your family the added safety you deserve. Luna uses photoelectric technology combined with professional monitoring. If there’s a fire in the middle of the night, Luna will send the fire department and give you and your family extra time to get to safety.
